My profile is set to 'Public' on everything including game details, but I'd guess most people's settings are more restrictive due to that update a while ago that changed it. I don't think it's something we can fix on our end.Īlso, I noticed the privacy settings on your Steam account don't seem to have any effect on this in regards to being able to join games & having people join your games. Eg, explicitly disabling LAN mode, declaring a game region in the server config, increasing the server heartbeat & manually sending heartbeat's via rcon (none of which make a difference since my server is displayed on the server browser like every other server), etc.
tried many changes as well both on my client end and when I'm running my own dedicated L4D server none of which have had any effect.

I also tried changing my download location and setting my matchmaking ping limit to 999 which didn't have any affect. The console's server browser appears to be using more 'raw' data which isn't having any issues being reported, but matchmaking on the menus seems to involve more complex display parameters involving the friend system perhaps?
I think this could definitely have something to do with the new client changes involving the friends system/chat, IIRC the first betas for that first came out at around 2 months ago. happens for me too, it shows my friends' (public) games on the main screen but almost never any games on any of the 'Play Online' screens for any game modes. Where it says "friends playing: 5" and you click it to see their games, I can join through that, but I looked and those games don't show up when I search for play online either. One thing I noticed is that I can still see when my friends are playing, it shows them on the main menu. I just checked and the menu's game finder showed 0 available Survival lobbies/games, yet the console browser showed me 15 Survival games on official servers with open slots and low pings. However, I've seen the same thing there as well. This has been most noticeable for the Realism game mode because modes like Campaign and Survival tend to have more players, and SOME games do still show up meaning it wouldn't be as noticeable there. I've sat at the game finder screen for half an hour during peak time EST with no games ever appearing yet have refreshed the console serverbrowser and seen many games being created within that same time period. I've been having to do 'openserverbrowser' and manually join games with the 'realism' tag if I want to find open Realism games since even though there are always games available, they never show up in the game finder any more. This is a fairly recent problem, and is not due to a lack of players, open games, or being blocked/having people blocked.įor example, here is a screenshot I've highlighted 12 open 'Realism' games on official valve servers (from the 'openserverbrowser console command) with 1-3 out of 4 available slots filled, and <150 ping (the default matchmaking ping upper limit) meaning they should all be showing up as available. The ingame server finder (Select a game mode > Play Online) will often report no open games being available, regardless of filters selected, even if there are many available open games you may have a low ping to. I've been trying to figure out this issue I've been having for over a month I'd say I've found people mentioning the same issue on Reddit as well as on the recent section of the Steam community forum section for Left 4 Dead 2.
